Two people trapped in their different worlds. One by wealth and one by poverty. Twenty years working for The Firm has given Marcus Barlow everything he wants but has taken his soul in return. Finding a way to leave has become an obsession.
Claire Halford’s life hits rock bottom when she is caught stealing food from Tesco Express. Left alone by her husband with two small children and an STI, her suicide music is starting to play louder in her head.
A chance meeting brings them together. As a mystery virus from China starts to run riot across the country, their world’s collide and they find they have more in common than they knew.
Set in the early months of 2020, Maybe It’s About Time is a story about the difficulty of changing lives for the better. Starting as a funny and satirical view of the egocentric world of professional services, it gives way to a heart-warming story of an unlikely friendship that rejuvenates Marcus and Claire, giving them both hope for a better future.

Omg, what a book. I found that I was very quickly completely invested in the storylines of Marcus and Claire. I just couldn’t put the book down.
As we started off Marcus did seem like a bit of a snob and clearly had a lot of money. He was an anxious character but the things that made him anxious were really trivial things - until he spotted that tiny first article about the virus and then that was making him anxious way before our other characters within the book. I loved the way that his character really developed throughout the story and I found that I was reading scenes with Marcus that I would never have expected to be reading.
Our second main character Claire however, is just instantly likeable and you just feel so sorry for her being a single mum with two children and strapped for cash and struggling to put food on the table for them. I loved the fact that she started to come out of her shell more and more throughout the book and I really enjoyed the dinner party scenes.
I liked our supporting characters too and thought that they all brought the pieces of the story together so well. I feel like I went through such a range of emotions with this book and it also had me in tears. I thought that the writing style was brilliant and I honestly think it’s the quickest 540 pages that I have ever read! I do however have questions - I really do hope there is another book to answer some of them in the pipeline. You can grab a copy here #aff
